ECHOES of DECEMBER
What comes to mind when someone says “December”?
Perhaps you think of Solstice and the longest night of the year… Perhaps you think of the Christian traditions surrounding the birth of Jesus… Perhaps you think of being with friends and chosen family – singing carols and sipping hot mulled apple cider…
Vivaldi Chamber Choir’s upcoming concert – “Echoes of December” has a touch of all these things.
The centrepiece of the concert will be Ottorino Respighi’s immensely beautiful “Lauda per la natività del Signore” (“Laud to the Nativity”). Sung in Italian, supported by our incredible collaborative pianist, Karen Lee-Morlang and featuring solos by our soprano, alto and tenor section leads – it is a harmonically rich presentation of the Christmas story.
Bookending the Respighi will be some choral gems by John Rutter and Gabriel Fauré, as well as some folk, celtic and contemporary choral works and a fun twist on a familiar song. Our homage to the gospel classic “Go Tell It on the Mountain” will feature our bass lead.
This season, Vivaldi honours our “Emeritus Singers” who have been long-standing members of our choir family. The Emeritus Singers will join the full choir for the last two songs of every concert.
Keeping with our winter tradition, Echoes of December will be a matinee show, presented without intermission, after which there will be refreshments and carolling to enjoy in the hall.
We hope to see you there for warm and cozy afternoon!

Vivaldi Chamber Choir believes in the power of music to affect positive change in our world. We recognize that we rehearse, perform and record on the traditional, ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleiwatuth people. We acknowledge that the land’s historical relationships with these peoples has existed since time immemorial. We express our gratitude to these peoples and value the opportunity to create music on this land.
